The consequences of decisions made by the Trump administration on multilateralism and on Geneva’s international ecosystem
Beyond its administrative role, our city is a vital hub for negotiation, cooperation, and diplomatic innovation. Today, however, it is weakened by geopolitical tensions, rising nationalism, and growing skepticism toward international cooperation.
The potential relocation of certain international organizations threatens the stability of a unique ecosystem that includes over 40 technical organizations, 460 NGOs, and 180 permanent missions. A recent study warns of the possible departure of many NGOs, further deepening the crisis.
In response to these challenges, three leading speakers were invited to help us understand the resilience strategies that have been implemented and to question the degree to which multilateralism depends on the political will of a small number of states:
-
Michael Møller, former Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, to address the global impact of American disengagement;
-
Anil Soni, CEO of the WHO Foundation, to discuss the effects in the field of global health;
-
Cecilia Roselli, Director at the Norwegian Refugee Council, to offer field-based insight into the humanitarian consequences of budget cuts.
